Document & Notarial Translation

Document & Notarial Translation

Civil records, birth and marriage certificates, official declarations, and notarial deeds for immigration, civil registry, and apostille submissions.

Document translation for official use carries a specific obligation that general translation does not. The translation must reproduce the original document accurately enough to be accepted by the receiving authority — a consulate, a registry office, a notary, an immigration department. These authorities have particular expectations, and producing a translation that meets them requires experience with the document types involved.

SenseTranslations has been handling official document translation from Sicily since 2016. The concentration of clients pursuing Italian citizenship by descent, immigration applications, and cross-border civil registry registrations has given us a deep familiarity with the specific documents these processes require and the precise format authorities expect.

Birth certificates, marriage records, death certificates, adoption orders, court orders affecting civil status, academic qualifications and diplomas, professional licences, police clearance certificates: we translate all standard official document types from Italian into foreign languages and into Italian from foreign languages.

If your document requires apostille legalisation in addition to certified translation, we offer an advisory add-on that explains the process and, where available, coordinates with apostille services. The apostille itself is issued by the competent Italian authority and is not part of the translation service.

In practice

An American family pursuing Italian citizenship jure sanguinis needed 18 vital records translated from English to Italian across three generations — birth, marriage, and naturalization certificates. All 18 documents delivered with sworn declarations, accepted by the Italian consulate in New York without revision requests.
A Sicilian professional applying for Portuguese residency required Italian documents translated and apostilled for submission. We translated the documents; the applicant obtained apostilles through the competent authority. Documents accepted on first submission.

Questions about this service

Yes. For documents submitted to Italian courts, notaries, and public authorities, we provide sworn translation (traduzione giurata) performed by a court-registered translator with a sworn declaration of faithfulness.
Certified translation means a qualified translator certifies the accuracy of the translation. Apostille is a legalisation of the original document’s authenticity, issued by a government authority. You may need one, both, or neither depending on the receiving country and document type.
