SenseTranslations was founded in San Cipirello in 2016 by Chiara Bonfiglio, with one practical conviction: that assigning documents to specialists produces better results than assigning them to generalists.
Chiara Bonfiglio founded SenseTranslations after a decade working as a literary translator between Italian and English. The problem she kept encountering was the same one: clients receiving translations that were linguistically competent but domain-ignorant. A medical brochure translated by someone who did not know the pharmacology. A legal contract translated by someone who did not know the relevant legal systems.
The agency was organised around a different approach: six specialist categories, each with its own pool of qualified translators, each assigned by subject matter first and language pair second. The language pair is a capability filter, not the primary assignment criterion.
San Cipirello is in the Palermo hinterland, in the heart of the Sicilian interior. Sicilyâs position at the crossroads of Mediterranean trade and culture has always meant a density of multilingual professionals: legal, commercial, medical, and literary. We draw on that community of expertise.
“Sense, not just words. In every language.”
